Parker Meadows
Parker Meadows Tallies two hits Thursday
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 6:15 PM
Meadows went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in Thursday's 8-0 win over the Athletics.
Analysis: Meadows is slowly starting to get his bat going, as he now has a hit in six of his last seven games. This was his first multi-hit effort since his season debut back on June 2, and he's still batting just .191 overall, but Meadows should continue to see regular playing time as a plus defender in center field. If the 25-year-old can continue to make consistent contact, he has some power and speed potential that could be appealing to fantasy managers.
Zach McKinstry
Zach McKinstry Big effort in easy win
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 6:10 PM
McKinstry went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Thursday's 8-0 win over the Athletics. He also stole a base, though he was caught stealing once as well.
Analysis: McKinstry did a little bit of everything to help lead the Tigers to a comfortable win in the series finale. The utility player is having a nice season with a .277 batting average, .793 OPS and nine stolen bases across 73 games, though he has seen his playing time dip a bit recently with Colt Keith getting more run at third base. However, with the Athletics starting lefty Jeffrey Springs, the right-handed McKinstry got the nod over the left-handed Keith. That could be the arrangement moving forward, at least until Matt Vierling (shoulder) is able to return from the injured list.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Homers in big win
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 6:05 PM
Torres went 1-for-3 with a walk, a two-run home run and two total runs scored in Thursday's 8-0 win over the Athletics.
Analysis: Torres provided a spark from the leadoff spot, smashing his eighth home run of the season in the seventh inning with a runner on. It was the infielder's first long ball since he went deep twice back on June 13, but he's continued to rake even without leaving the yard, as he's now batting .333 with seven RBI and eight runs scored in 11 games since that multi-homer effort. Torres is thriving near the top of a strong Detroit lineup in his first season with the Tigers.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Homers in win
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 3:48 PM
Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Thursday's 8-0 win over the A's.
Analysis: Torkelson opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo shot off Jeffrey Springs, his 17th of the year. The homer is Torkelson's first since June 10. The 25-year-old first baseman had gone just 2-for-27 (.074) in seven games prior to Thursday. Overall, Torkelson's slashing .224/.328/.474 with 50 RBI and 45 runs scored across 320 plate appearances this season.
Alex Lange
Alex Lange Sharp in rehab appearance
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 9:40 AM
Lange (lat) tossed a perfect inning of relief with two strikeouts to begin the next phase of his rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Analysis: Lange was shut down for the season last June after undergoing surgery on his right lat, and he's been on the 60-day injured list since the offseason, so the Tigers will likely proceed cautiously with his rehab program. He started his assignment by making two appearances for High-A West Michigan earlier this month and will now spend some time with the Mud Hens ramping up. The righty could eventually give Detroit another arm for its bullpen, though his struggles with control persisted in 2024, walking 17 batters in 18.2 major-league innings before eventually getting demoted to Triple-A and then getting injured. He's walked at least four batters per nine innings in each of his four MLB seasons and will need to improve in that area to stick with the Tigers.
Matt Vierling
Matt Vierling Set to play third Thursday
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 9:32 AM
Vierling (shoulder) is slated to start at third base for Triple-A Toledo in a rehab game Thursday and also see some more time in the outfield before his return to the majors, which is likely to come within a week.
Analysis: Vierling has worked his way up from serving as the DH to seeing some time in the outfield during his rehab assignment, and he'll now shift over to third base. The team wants to see the 28-year-old take some reps at the hot corner and also play a bit more in the outfield before bringing him back to the majors. The Tigers lineup has done well in the absence of Vierling, so he may have to settle for more of a bench role initially, though he could eventually push for more playing time at third or in right field.
Matt Gage
Matt Gage Removed from 40-man roster
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 9:19 AM
The Tigers designated Gage for assignment Thursday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: The transaction frees up a spot on the 26-man active roster and 40-man roster left-hander Dietrich Enns, who was called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Thursday's game versus the Athletics. Gage spun 5.2 scoreless innings over six relief appearances during his time with the Tigers, although that came with a 3:2 K:BB.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Out vs. LHP for second straight day
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 9:15 AM
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.
Analysis: Carpenter and fellow left-handed hitter Colt Keith will remain on the bench for the second straight day while the Athletics send another left-handed starter (Jeffrey Springs) to the mound for the series finale. With Carpenter and Keith sitting, the Tigers will use Jahmai Jones at designated hitter, Spencer Torkelson at first base and Zach McKinstry at third base.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Out vs. LHP for second straight day
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 9:13 AM
Keith is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.
Analysis: Keith and fellow left-handed hitter Kerry Carpenter will remain on the bench for the second straight day while the Athletics send another left-handed starter (Jeffrey Springs) to the mound for the series finale. With Keith and Carpenter sitting, the Tigers will use Jahmai Jones at designated hitter, Spencer Torkelson at first base and Zach McKinstry at third base.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Idle for day game
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 9:10 AM
Dingler is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.
Analysis: Dingler will get a breather for the afternoon game Thursday after he had started behind the plate in each of the previous three contests. Jake Rogers will handle catching duties for the Tigers, forming a battery with starting pitcher Dietrich Enns.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Cleared to start Saturday
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 8:35 AM
Mize (leg) is listed as the Tigers' starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Twins, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Mize was removed from his most recent start Sunday against the Rays due to cramping in his right leg, but he has recovered fine and is ready to roll for his next turn in the rotation. The right-hander has yielded two earned runs or fewer in each of his last four starts, although he's reached the six-inning mark on just one occasion during that stretch.
Reese Olson
Reese Olson Appears set to return from IL
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 8:19 AM
Olson (finger) struck out five and allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk across four innings Wednesday in his rehab start for Triple-A Toledo.
Analysis: Olson spotted 49 of his 74 pitches for strikes and sported a fastball that sat between 92 and 94 miles per hour on the day, about a tick behind his average velocity prior to landing on the injured list May 19 due to right ring finger inflammation. Though the 25-year-old didn't reach five innings in any of his three rehab outings with Toledo, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that all reports on Olson were positive coming out of his start Wednesday, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. Olson is likely to return to Detroit this weekend to complete a bullpen session, and if he continues to check out fine, he could be activated from the IL to make his next start with the big club Tuesday or Wednesday in Washington.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Drops third straight
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 8:47 PM
Flaherty (5-9) took the loss Wednesday against the A's, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks over six innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: One pitch proved to be enough to stick Flaherty with the loss Wednesday -- he gave up a three-run homer to Nick Kurtz with two outs in the third inning that proved to be the difference in a 3-0 defeat. While it's the third straight loss for Flaherty, it's a step in the right direction for the right-hander after he'd given up 15 runs in just five innings over his previous two outings. Overall, Flaherty sports a 4.80 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP and 100:35 K:BB across 16 starts (84.1 innings) this season. He's currently lined up to face the Nationals on the road his next time out.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Clubs eighth homer
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 10:08 AM
Dingler went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 11-4 win over the A's.
Analysis: The 26-year-old backstop took Luis Severino deep in the third inning for what proved to be the game-winning hit, breaking open a 4-4 tie. Dingler has slowed down at the plate in June, slashing .196/.233/.375 over 18 contests, but he's still supplying good power numbers this month with three of his eight homers and 12 of his 34 RBI on the season.
Riley Greene
Riley Greene Four hits in Tuesday's win
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 10:05 AM
Greene went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 11-4 rout of the A's.
Analysis: The 24-year-old is on a tear, banging out at least three hits in three of his last four games and multiple knocks in eight of his last 14. During that blistering stretch, Greene is slashing .418/.468/.764 with seven doubles, four homers, 12 runs and a whopping 19 RBI.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Overcomes shaky start for win
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 10:03 AM
Skubal (9-2) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk over six innings in an 11-4 victory over the A's. He struck out eight.
Analysis: For the second straight trip to the mound, Skubal had his routine disrupted by a pregame rain delay, and the left-handed ace served up two-run homers to Brent Rooker in the first inning and Denzel Clarke in the second -- the first long balls he's coughed up since May 20. Skubal found his focus after that, breezing through the next four frames before exiting after 97 pitches (65 strikes). The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner hasn't been tagged for a loss since April 2, a streak he'll look to keep intact in his next outing, which is lined up to come at home this weekend against the Twins.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Goes deep in easy win
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 10:01 PM
Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 11-4 win over the Athletics.
Analysis: Carpenter wasted no time recording his 14th home run of the season, going deep three batters into the contest. The outfielder had been mired in a slump before Tuesday, going 2-for-33 with 11 strikeouts in 11 games since a three-hit effort back on June 8. Carpenter will need to string together a few more good performances to truly put the slump behind him, but he has the talent to heat up quickly.
Matt Gage
Matt Gage Extends scoreless streak
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 9:55 PM
Gage, who tossed a scoreless inning of relief in Tuesday's win over the Athletics, has now made five straight scoreless appearances since debuting with the Tigers.
Analysis: Gage has allowed five hits and two walks in his 5.1 total innings of work so far, but he's yet to allow any runs. It's a small sample, though the lefty was also pitching well for Triple-A Toledo, posting a 1.67 ERA and 0.97 WHIP across 32.1 innings with the Mud Hens earlier in the year. Gage could eventually see more high-leverage work out of the Detroit bullpen if he keeps up this level of performance.
Matt Vierling
Matt Vierling Recovered from illness
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 4:20 PM
Vierling (shoulder) will be in the lineup Wednesday with Triple-A Toledo after being scratched Sunday due to an illness, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Vierling had his rehab assignment slowed by the ailment but will return to game action after just a few days. The 28-year-old has gone 4-for-20 through five games on the rehab assignment and may not be far off from rejoining the big-league roster.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Grabbing seat Tuesday
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 1:58 PM
Baez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Athletics.
Analysis: The Tigers will go with Trey Sweeney at shortstop in the series opener. It's a routine day off for Baez, who has heated back up lately with a 1.325 OPS and three homers in his last nine tilts.
