Tomas Nido
Tomas Nido Back with Tigers on MiLB pact
Thu, Oct 30, 2025, 11:17 AM
The Tigers re-signed Nido to a minor-league contract Thursday with an invitation to spring training.
Analysis: Nido finished the 2025 season with the Tigers after stops with the Mets and Cubs. A career .215/.249/.310 hitter over parts of nine big-league seasons, the 31-year-old Nido is slated to begin the 2026 season as experienced catching depth at Triple-A Toledo.
Troy Melton
Troy Melton Projected to be in 2026 rotation
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 9:56 AM
Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris and manager A.J. Hinch said at their end-of-the-season press conference Monday that Melton will be a starting pitcher next season, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Melton bounced back-and-forth between the rotation and bullpen for the Tigers in 2025 both in the regular and postseason and was impressive in both roles, collecting a 2.76 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 36:15 K:BB over 45.2 regular-season frames. The 24-year-old has been a starting pitcher throughout the minors and held a 2.99 ERA and 101:20 K:BB across 75.1 innings between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo this season. Melton is currently projected to open the 2026 campaign in the Tigers' rotation.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Slated for sports hernia surgery
Sat, Oct 11, 2025, 9:19 AM
Torres said after Friday's loss to Seattle that he plans to undergo sports hernia surgery in the offseason, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Torres added that he has been playing through the injury for multiple months, which helps to explain why he slashed .223/.320/.339 during the second half of the season after entering the All-Star break with an .812 OPS. His procedure isn't expected to affect his availability for the start of the 2026 campaign, so it also shouldn't interfere with the interest he receives in free agency this winter.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Fans 13 in ALDS finale
Sat, Oct 11, 2025, 8:32 AM
Skubal didn't factor into the decision in Game 5 of the ALDS against the Mariners on Friday, giving up one earned run on two hits while striking out 13 batters across six innings. He did not issue a walk.
Analysis: Outside of a second-inning double from Josh Naylor, which later resulted in a run, the Mariners were helpless to get any sort of offense going against Skubal. By striking out 13 batters Friday, the 28-year-old lefty tied the MLB record for most punchouts with no walks in a postseason game, and he became the first pitcher in MLB history to record multiple 13-strikeout performances in the same postseason. The Tigers were unable to come away with the win after 15 innings, however, so Skubal will now shift his focus to next season and is likely to repeat as one of the top fantasy performers in the sport in 2026.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Fades into reserve role
Wed, Oct 8, 2025, 11:22 AM
Perez is out of the lineup Wednesday for Game 4 of the ALDS versus the Mariners.
Analysis: Since returning from the injured list in late May, Perez had served as a near-everyday player for the Tigers through the end of the regular season and during the wild-card round series victory over the Guardians, but he's moved into a reserve role for the ALDS. With Detroit welcoming Colt Keith back from a rib injury that kept him out of the wild-card round, Perez has found himself as the odd man out of the lineup for each of the first four games of the series with Seattle. Keith will once again serve as the Tigers' designated hitter Wednesday, which will result in Kerry Carpenter displacing Perez in right field.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Strikes out nine in no-decision
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 9:17 AM
Skubal permitted two runs on five hits and one walk over seven innings in a no-decision Sunday in Seattle. He struck out nine.
Analysis: Jorge Polanco proved to be Skubal's kryptonite, taking the left-hander deep with solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The Mariners didn't get anything going off Skubal aside from Polanco's exploits, and the southpaw was handed a no-decision after the Tigers rallied to tie the game in the top of the eighth. Skubal has given up a total of three runs while fanning 23 batters over 14.2 frames in his two starts this postseason. He's lined up to start Game 5 of the ALDS, if the series goes the distance.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Starting Game 4, if needed
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 4:49 PM
Mize will draw the start on the mound in Wednesday's Game 4 matchup with Seattle, if needed, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Mize will toe the rubber for the second time in the postseason if the Tigers' series against Seattle in the ALDS reaches a Game 4 on Wednesday. The right-hander pitched three innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out a batter in the team's 6-1 loss to the Guardians in Game 2 of the wild-card round. Mize will look to last longer in his next outing, whether it comes Wednesday or later down the road in the playoffs.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Lined up to start Game 3
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 4:42 PM
Flaherty is expected to draw the start on the mound in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Mariners on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Flaherty will be back on the mound when the team returns to Detroit, looking to build off of his last outing in Game 3 of the Tigers' wild-card round series versus Cleveland. The right-hander tossed 4.2 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four batters against the Guardians. Flaherty drew one start versus the Mariners during the regular season, pitching five innings and surrendering two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters July 13.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith In lineup as DH
Sat, Oct 4, 2025, 4:10 PM
Keith (ribs) will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth in Saturday's ALDS Game 1 matchup against the Mariners.
Analysis: Keith was officially added to the Tigers' ALDS roster Saturday after missing the wild-card round with rib-cage inflammation, and he's now been deemed fit enough to work as Detroit's designated hitter to begin the series. He'll make his 2025 postseason debut against George Kirby, whom he is 4-for-8 against in his MLB career.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Named on ALDS roster
Sat, Oct 4, 2025, 12:18 PM
Keith (ribs) is listed on the Tigers' ALDS roster.
Analysis: Keith landed on the injured list Sept. 19 due to right rib cage inflammation, and after sitting out the AL Wild Card Series versus Cleveland, the 24-year-old will now be available to play against Seattle in the ALDS. That being said, it remains unknown whether he will start Game 1 against the Mariners on Saturday. If he sits out, Zach McKinstry would likely continue to see action at the hot corner.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Homers in series-clinching win
Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 6:33 PM
Dingler went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two strikeouts and a walk during Thursday's 6-3 win over the Guardians.
Analysis: Dingler's solo shot off Joey Cantillo in the sixth inning put the Tigers in front 2-1 -- a lead the team would not give up for the rest of the game. The 27-year-old is now 1-for-10 at the plate through three games in the postseason, and Detroit's Game 3 victory will ensure he receives at least three more opportunities to start behind the plate against the Mariners.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Four strikeouts in Game 3
Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 6:10 PM
Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's 6-3 win over Cleveland, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four batters across 4.2 innings.
Analysis: Flaherty turned in a very strong performance in Thursday's do-or-die meeting, giving up just one run on an RBI single from Jose Ramirez in the fourth inning. The right-hander wasn't able to make it through the fifth inning, however, which kept him from earning the win once Detroit took the lead on a sixth-inning homer from Dillon Dingler. Now that the Tigers have earned the right to face the Mariners in the ALDS, Flaherty figures to make at least one more start in the postseason -- possibly during Game 3 on Tuesday.
Parker Meadows
Parker Meadows Demoted to nine spot
Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 11:13 AM
Meadows will start in center field and bat ninth in Thursday's Game 3 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Guardians.
Analysis: The Guardians are sending righty Slade Cecconi to the bump, but the left-handed-swinging Meadows has nonetheless been pushed from the leadoff spot all the way to the bottom of the batting order. Meadows has gone 1-for-8 with a 1:3 BB:K in the first two games of the series. Gleyber Torres -- who typically bats second -- will hit leadoff for the Tigers in Thursday's elimination game.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Good to go for Game 3
Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 11:08 AM
Torkelson (foot) will start at first base and bat cleanup Thursday in Game 3 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Guardians.
Analysis: Torkelson had X-rays after fouling a ball off his foot in Game 2 and also was hit on the hand/wrist by a pitch, but he's ready to roll for Thursday's winner-take-all tilt. The 26-year-old is 1-for-6 with one RBI and a 1:3 BB:K in the first two games of the series.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson X-rays on foot are negative
Wed, Oct 1, 2025, 4:03 PM
Torkelson underwent X-rays on his right foot which came back negative after Wednesday's loss to the Guardians in Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Torkelson was hit in the hand by a Cade Smith pitch in the ninth inning, but it was his foot that was imaged after he fouled a ball off his leg earlier in the game. He is expected to be fine to play in Thursday's winner-take-all Game 3. Torkelson went 0-for-3 with a walk, in addition to the hit-by-pitch, in Wednesday's contest.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Short Game 2 outing
Wed, Oct 1, 2025, 3:29 PM
Mize took a no-decision in Wednesday's game versus the Guardians, allowing one run on one hit and two walks over three-plus innings.
Analysis: The only hit and run Mize surrendered came courtesy of George Valera, who cranked a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Mize struck out just one batter, though, and had thrown 62 pitches when he was lifted after issuing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fourth inning. The right-hander should get another start if the Tigers advance to the ALDS, but manager A.J. Hinch would likely have a quick hook again.
Reese Olson
Reese Olson Won't be option until World Series
Wed, Oct 1, 2025, 12:46 PM
The Tigers would need to advance to the World Series in order for Olson (shoulder) to become an option to be added to their roster, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Olson has been sidelined since late July with a right shoulder strain but began a throwing progression in early September. It's unclear whether he's progressed to mound work, and given how long Olson's layoff has been, the right-hander seems like a long shot to pitch again in 2025.
Matt Vierling
Matt Vierling Possible option for ALDS
Wed, Oct 1, 2025, 12:42 PM
Vierling (oblique) is an option to be added to the roster if the Tigers advance to the ALDS, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Vierling had to be pulled off a rehab assignment after suffering a setback with his left oblique in mid-September. He's been progressing of late, however, having taken 40 swings Monday as he works out at the Tigers' Triple-A affiliate in Toledo. Vierling has been limited to only 31 games this season due to injury and isn't a lock to be added to the roster even if he's deemed 100 percent.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Hoping to be back for ALDS
Wed, Oct 1, 2025, 9:22 AM
The Tigers are hopeful that Keith (ribs) will be ready to play in the ALDS, should they advance, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Sidelined for the past two weeks with right rib cage inflammation, Keith played catch on the field at Progressive Field on Wednesday. He's also been able to participate in other baseball activities, including swinging a bat, per Evan Woodbery of MLive.com. Keith certainly appears to be moving in the right direction, but a decision on his availability for the ALDS could come down to the wire. With Keith sidelined, Zach McKinstry has been filling in at third base for the Tigers.
Will Vest
Will Vest Nails down Game 1 save
Tue, Sep 30, 2025, 3:14 PM
Vest pitched around one hit over 1.1 scoreless frames to notch a save in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Guardians.
Analysis: Vest entered the game in the eighth inning with a runner on second base, two out and the Tigers clinging to a one-run lead. He finished off that frame with a groundout but immediately was back in hot water in the ninth when Jose Ramirez reached on a leadoff infield single and advanced to third base on a two-base error. However, Vest also managed to extinguish that rally with a strikeout, a fielder's choice and a popout. Vest picked up the final five traditional saves down the stretch of the regular season for the Tigers and has now registered their first postseason save. However, while Vest will be the favorite to close games for Detroit, manager A.J. Hinch's propensity to mix and match means Vest could also be used earlier in games if the situation calls for it.
